Kansas City — federal indictment unseals a year-long fentanyl, carfentanil and cocaine ring, six charged
A federal indictment unsealed September 1 charges six people, ages 40 to 70, with running a drug-distribution operation out of the Kansas City area between November 2025 and August 2026. The investigation — led by a Homeland Security Task Force including the DEA, ATF, IRS Criminal Investigation and Missouri Highway Patrol — tied the ring to more than 3.5 kilograms of cocaine, about 1.5 kilograms of fentanyl and a further kilogram of a carfentanil-fentanyl mixture, plus nine firearms including one with an illegal machine-gun conversion switch. Carfentanil, an elephant tranquilizer with no approved human use, is roughly 10,000 times more potent than morphine.
